Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was on Monday re-arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja by the Department of State Services over allegations of tapping the phone of the National Security Adviser.

El-Rufai was brought to the court around 8:55 a.m. by DSS operatives, who heavily guarded the court premises and restricted movement around the area.

The action prevented journalists, court staff, and other visitors from entering the court premises for some time, leading to a brief protest.

Leading the protest was activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, who argued that the court is a public place and should remain open to Nigerians interested in observing court proceedings.

A staff member of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, who spoke anonymously, said DSS operatives arrived at the agency’s office around 7:00 a.m. to pick up El-Rufai for the court appearance.

According to the source, the case being handled in court is different from any matter involving the ICPC.

More details are expected later.
