The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released two supporters of Peter Obi, Peter Akah and Oruche Precious, also known as Mama Pee, after questioning them over allegations of naira abuse.
The two members of the Obidient Movement honoured the EFCC’s invitation and reported to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday. They were released around midnight but asked to return on Thursday as the investigation continues.
Their lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, said the allegation was linked to the use of money during an entertainment event. He explained that the notes in question were not real naira but prop money used for filming and entertainment.
Effiong said his clients cooperated fully with investigators and described the EFCC’s conduct during the questioning as professional. He added that both Akah and Mama Pee are in good condition and appreciate the concern shown by Nigerians.
The development comes a few days after Peter Obi, the NDC’s 2027 presidential candidate, alleged that the Federal Government was targeting opposition members.
