President Bola Tinubu has said the values and achievements of former President Muhammadu Buhari will continue to guide and inspire Nigerians for many years.
Tinubu made the statement on Monday in Abuja during Buhari’s first-year memorial event. He was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The President described Buhari as a patriotic leader who dedicated his life to serving Nigeria and contributing to the country’s development.
He said Buhari would be remembered for his integrity, discipline and commitment to public service.
Tinubu said many Nigerians still respect Buhari even after he left office and encouraged citizens to continue promoting the values he believed in.
He said Nigeria would not forget Buhari because of the life he lived and his contributions to the country.
Tinubu recalled their political relationship, saying they shared a vision of building a peaceful, united and prosperous Nigeria.
He added that Buhari served the country with courage and dedication.
According to Tinubu, Buhari was one of the few Nigerians who led the country both as a military ruler and as an elected civilian president.
He said Buhari’s legacy was based on honesty, character and service rather than personal recognition.
The President also expressed sympathy to Buhari’s family and assured them that the government would continue to support them.
He said Nigerians should preserve the qualities Buhari was known for, including honesty, simplicity and self-discipline.
Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, also paid tribute to Buhari.
He described him as a brave soldier who worked for Nigeria’s unity.
Gowon said Buhari’s political success was boosted after he formed an alliance with Tinubu, which helped him win the 2015 presidential election.
