The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, says Nigeria’s democracy must be protected and allowed to grow despite the challenges facing the country.
In a statement posted on his verified X account on Wednesday, the former Bayelsa State governor said the NDC is facing what he described as legal and politically motivated actions by anti-democratic forces, but expressed confidence that the situation would pass.
Dickson said he believes the judiciary will uphold the law and resist any attempt to use the courts to undermine democracy.
He also expressed disappointment that some people he had supported and helped to attain public office had turned against him.
According to him, they are now using government institutions to remove elected officials, victimise innocent citizens and spread false information.
He said Nigeria’s multi-party democracy must survive regardless of the obstacles ahead, especially as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Dickson added that he was encouraged by the growing number of people joining and participating in the activities of the NDC, saying the support shows that many Nigerians are committed to strengthening democracy and returning the country to the right path.
