Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused President Bola Tinubu of lacking the energy and ability to address Nigeria’s challenges.

Speaking at a party event in Abuja on Monday, Obi said Nigerians needed new leadership. He also warned against electoral fraud in the 2027 general elections and called for free and fair polls.

Obi further condemned the alleged harassment of his supporters, saying his preference for peaceful conduct should not be mistaken for weakness.

The NDC National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, urged party members to support all its candidates in the 2027 elections, warning that those involved in anti-party activities could face sanctions.

The party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, said the NDC was formed to provide an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he accused of failing to deliver on its promises on security, corruption and the economy.

The party also announced that it had received ₦8.53bn in revenue within eight months of registration, with ₦6.13bn remaining after expenses.

The NDC has opened its national secretariat in Abuja and inaugurated its presidential campaign council ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement criticised the party for announcing its campaign council late, questioning its grassroots strength and readiness for the election.
