Andy Burnham has officially become the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after meeting King Charles III at Buckingham Palace on Monday.
The appointment came after former Prime Minister Keir Starmer formally resigned from office.
In a statement, Buckingham Palace said King Charles III invited Burnham to form a new government.
Burnham accepted the King’s offer and was officially appointed as prime minister.
The palace said the appointment followed the traditional ceremony known as “kissing hands,” which is part of the formal process of appointing a British prime minister.
More details are expected later.
