France’s all-time leading scorer, Olivier Giroud, has signed a one-year contract extension with French club Lille.

The 39-year-old striker, who previously played for Arsenal, Chelsea and AC Milan, will remain with the Ligue 1 side for another season.

Giroud scored 57 goals in 137 appearances for France during his 13-year international career and was part of the squad that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking after signing the new deal, Giroud said he believes in Lille’s vision and shares the club’s values.

“I identify with Lille’s vision and I want to continue helping the team achieve more success,” he said.

The veteran forward joined Lille last season and made important contributions, including scoring four goals in the UEFA Europa League.

Lille finished third in the French league, earning qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Giroud also expressed excitement about working with the club’s new coach, Davide Ancelotti, the son of Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti.

He described Ancelotti as a young coach with fresh ideas and said he is looking forward to the new season under his leadership.

Meanwhile, Giroud’s record as France’s highest goalscorer could soon be surpassed by captain Kylian Mbappé, who currently has 56 international goals—just one behind Giroud’s total of 57.
