Senator Victor Umeh has rejected claims that Peter Obi is widely unpopular in northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Umeh, a strong supporter of Obi, described the claim as “make-believe” and propaganda.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the senator said Obi had already demonstrated during the 2023 election that he could attract support outside the South-East.
Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party, is now seeking the presidency again under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Umeh said the former Anambra State governor would seek to increase his support across northern Nigeria as the 2027 election approaches.
The North remains strategically important to presidential candidates because of its large voting population and the constitutional requirement for nationwide support.
