The French Football Federation (FFF) has appointed former French football star Zinedine Zidane as the new head coach of the country’s men’s national team.
The appointment, announced on Tuesday, ends years of speculation about Zidane taking charge of Les Bleus.
He succeeds Didier Deschamps following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Reports say Zidane has signed a four-year contract.
The 54-year-old is regarded as one of France’s greatest footballers. He played a key role in helping the country win the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship in 2000.
After retiring as a player, Zidane enjoyed a highly successful coaching career with Real Madrid, leading the club to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles.
His achievements have earned him recognition as one of the world’s top football managers.
Zidane is expected to begin preparing the French national team for the UEFA Nations League and to build a squad capable of competing at UEFA Euro 2028 and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
