Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says he has no evidence to prove that he won the 2023 presidential election, but remains convinced that he won.

Obi made the statement in an interview with BBC Africa while discussing his decision to contest the 2027 election. When asked if he had evidence to support his claim, the former Anambra State governor said, “There’s no evidence… but I won the election.”

Obi also maintained that the 2023 election was rigged, despite the courts rejecting his legal challenge.

In the 2023 election, Obi contested under the Labour Party and came third with 6,101,533 votes.

INEC declared Bola Tinubu of the APC winner with 8,794,726 votes, while Atiku Abubakar of the PDP came second with 6,984,520 votes.

Obi and the Labour Party challenged the result, alleging electoral irregularities.

However, the Presidential Election Petitions Court dismissed the case in September 2023, and the Supreme Court upheld the decision in October of the same year.

Despite the court rulings, Obi continues to insist that the election did not reflect the wishes of Nigerian voters. He is now preparing to contest the 2027 presidential election as the candidate of the NDC.
