The name Muhammad has once again become the most popular name given to baby boys in England and Wales in 2025.
The UK’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed this in its report on the most popular baby names in the previous year.
This marks the third consecutive year that Muhammad has topped the list of the most-used names for baby boys in England and Wales.
The name ranked first in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
The report showed that 5,957 baby boys were named Muhammad in 2025.
Other spellings of the name, including Mohammed and Mohammad, also appeared among the most popular names.
The name Mohammed ranked 20th, with 1,712 children receiving the name, while Mohammad ranked 55th, after 895 children were given the name.
Experts say it is not surprising that Muhammad continues to hold the top position because popular names often remain widely used for a long period.
Clare Green, a baby-name expert, said that when a name becomes widely accepted among people, more parents are likely to choose it because they hear it frequently.
She explained that the more a name is used, the more popular it becomes, as parents often prefer names they are familiar with or have seen others use.

For baby girls, Olivia remained the most popular name, maintaining its position for 10 consecutive years.
