The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his recent statement that he is ready to “fight to the finish” politically, saying he should focus on tackling insecurity instead of fighting the opposition.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said it was disappointing that the President made the remark during a meeting with members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria while many parts of the country continue to suffer from terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.
The ADC referred to the recent attack on Naridon village in Kaduna State, where at least 30 people were killed, saying the President should give more attention to protecting lives and property.
The party accused Tinubu’s administration of responding to security attacks with statements and condolences instead of taking strong action against the attackers.
According to the ADC, Nigerians elected President Tinubu to fight terrorists, bandits and kidnappers, not political opponents.
The party also said the President appears more determined in responding to the opposition than in dealing with insecurity, despite the continued killings and displacement of communities across the country.
The ADC argued that after more than three years in office, the administration has not achieved enough in tackling insecurity and should focus on improving security rather than engaging in political battles.
It added that elections are won through good performance, not strong political statements, stressing that terrorism, banditry and kidnapping not the opposition are the country’s real enemies.
