Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, was the target of an attack on the convoy of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, police have said.
The incident happened in Osogbo on Wednesday when the governor visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo after receiving his certificate of return from INEC.
Davido, who is the governor’s nephew, was among those who accompanied him.
Residents said gunshots caused panic for more than 15 minutes as the governor’s security team exchanged fire with suspected attackers.
Osun Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi said preliminary investigations showed that suspected members of the Eye Confraternity were trying to get to Davido but were stopped by his security team.
The confrontation led to a gun battle. A 60-year-old man, Tajudeen Yusuf, was reportedly shot and later died in hospital.
Police said they have launched a full investigation and are working to arrest the suspects.
Residents were urged to remain calm and provide useful information to assist the investigation.
