Senator Orji Kalu has said President Bola Tinubu remains the strongest candidate ahead of the 2027 presidential election despite Nigeria’s economic challenges.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Kalu said Tinubu’s economic reforms have helped stabilise the country’s economy.
He pointed to improvements in the exchange rate, fuel prices and foreign investment but admitted that many Nigerians are still struggling with the high cost of living.
Kalu blamed the hardship partly on global economic problems and insecurity, saying attacks by bandits and insurgents have prevented many farmers from returning to their farms, leading to higher food prices.
He also dismissed claims that President Tinubu has a poor relationship with the Catholic Church, saying the Church has every right to speak on national issues and that the President respects its leaders.
Looking ahead to 2027, Kalu said the APC is confident of retaining power.
He rated Tinubu’s performance at 65 per cent and argued that the government has made progress in infrastructure, security and economic reforms, although it has not done enough to publicise its achievements.
He added that Nigerians have the constitutional right to peaceful protest but urged people to be careful about misinformation, especially on social media.
