Grace Ike, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, has received the Emporium Leadership Award for Media Leadership and Civil Engagement.

The award was presented during the 2026 Emporium Leadership Lecture and Awards in Abuja, held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Emporium Magazine.

Speaking at the event, Grace Ike congratulated the magazine for surviving and growing over the past decade despite challenges in the media industry.

She warned journalists against prioritising online traffic and popularity over accurate and responsible reporting.

According to her, the rise of digital media has increased the spread of misinformation, fake news and sensational stories.

Ike stressed that credibility, accountability and transparency remain the foundation of journalism and democracy.

She urged media professionals to maintain ethical standards and avoid sacrificing the truth for clicks and engagement on digital platforms.

The NUJ chair also reaffirmed the union’s support for media organisations that promote truth, accountability and public-interest journalism.

She praised Emporium Magazine for its 10 years of service and encouraged other award recipients to see their recognition as a call to greater responsibility and service to society.

The event brought together journalists, government officials, civil society groups and communication experts to discuss the role of digital journalism in strengthening democracy in Nigeria.
