Kwankwasiyya Denies Reports of Kwankwaso’s Exit From NDC

The Kwankwasiyya movement has denied reports claiming that its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is planning to leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The reports followed claims that the party reviewed and replaced some candidates earlier submitted by the group in Kano State.

Speaking on the issue, the Kwankwasiyya spokesperson, Dr. Habib Sale, said there has been no discussion or decision about Kwankwaso leaving the party.

He described the reports as rumours circulating in the media and on social media.

“Our leader has not discussed leaving the party with anyone. We only saw those reports like everyone else,” Sale said.

He also explained that the Kwankwasiyya-backed candidates were selected through the party’s primary election held on May 29, and the process was completed without objections at the time.

According to him, the list of candidates was submitted after the primaries, and any further action now depends on the party’s rules and decisions.

The comments come after reports that the NDC replaced some Kwankwasiyya-backed candidates in Kano, allegedly due to a disagreement over a power-sharing arrangement between the two sides.

The arrangement reportedly gave 60 percent of positions to the Kwankwasiyya bloc and 40 percent to the party’s original structure.

Despite the tension, the Kwankwasiyya movement insists no decision has been made about its future in the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
