Former Kano State governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, says he is ready to serve as running mate to Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election if the coalition decides so.
Speaking on Arise News on Monday, Kwankwaso said Nigeria needs strong and credible leadership to solve insecurity, economic hardship and poor governance. He said the coalition leaders agreed that power should remain in the South for another term before returning to the North, adding that the arrangement would help strengthen opposition unity ahead of 2027.

When asked if he would accept to be Obi’s running mate, Kwankwaso replied: “Yes. If the party decides I should serve as running mate to any southern candidate, I will gladly work with him.”
Kwankwaso described Obi as one of the few politicians capable of giving Nigerians the leadership they need.
He also said many young Nigerians are now more interested in good leadership than ethnic or religious politics because of worsening insecurity, unemployment and economic hardship.
The former governor dismissed claims that an Obi-Kwankwaso alliance would weaken opposition support in the North, insisting that Nigerians are more concerned about the country’s problems than regional politics.
Kwankwaso further criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress, saying many leaders are disconnected from the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.
