FG approves N10bn TETFund research grants

The Federal Government has approved N10 billion for the 2026 National Research Fund grant programme of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

The amount represents a 64.2 per cent increase from the N6.09 billion approved for 174 research projects in 2025.

TETFund said the increased funding is aimed at improving research and strengthening the capacity of Nigerian researchers.

The agency said its online portal for submission of concept notes would open on August 31, 2026, while the deadline is October 15.

It stressed that there would be no extension.The fund will support research in 30 priority areas covering humanities and social sciences, science, engineering, technology and innovation, as well as cross-cutting areas.

Lecturers in public tertiary institutions are eligible to apply.

TETFund said it would encourage research involving scholars from different disciplines.

Applicants whose concept notes are considered suitable will proceed to the full proposal stage, after which selected researchers may be required to defend their projects before the screening committee.
