The Department of State Services (DSS) has asked its lawyer to seek an adjournment of the cyber-bullying case against African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.
The DSS wants the case to be postponed until after the 2027 presidential election, which is scheduled for January 16, 2027.
The case concerns social media posts allegedly made by Sowore on August 25, 2025, in which he referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal”.
The security agency said the court should determine whether it is lawful for Sowore or anyone else to publicly describe the President or another individual as a criminal.
The DSS also directed that similar cases involving candidates contesting other elective positions should be reviewed.
The development comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to increase, with several opposition politicians already making preparations for the election.
