The National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) has warned that the ongoing shortage and high cost of Jet-A1 aviation fuel could affect flight safety and lead to job losses in Nigeria’s aviation industry if the problem is not solved quickly.
NAAPE said the fuel crisis has continued to disrupt flight schedules, forcing pilots and engineers to work longer hours.

According to the association, this can cause serious fatigue, which is a major safety risk in aviation.
The President of NAAPE, Captain Bunmi Gindeh, called on the Federal Government, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and fuel suppliers to urgently address the issue.
He explained that tired pilots and engineers may lose concentration, react slowly, and make mistakes, which can put passengers’ safety at risk.
The association also said the fuel crisis is causing financial problems for airlines because delayed or grounded flights mean airlines lose money while their operating costs continue.
NAAPE warned that the financial pressure could lead to delayed salaries, salary cuts, and poor welfare conditions for workers in the aviation sector.
The group added that some airlines have already started reducing their operations because of the crisis.
It mentioned that Rano Air recently reduced some of its routes due to the situation.
NAAPE warned that if the problem continues, more airlines may suspend routes, stop operations completely, and many workers could lose their jobs.
The association stressed that aviation is important for Nigeria’s economy, trade, tourism, and transportation, and that the crisis could have serious effects on the country if not addressed quickly.
