Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the vice presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has welcomed the party’s new rule aimed at stopping politicians from defecting after winning elections.

Speaking through a spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Habibu Saleh Mohammed, Kwankwaso said the policy supports Nigeria’s Constitution, which discourages elected officials from abandoning the parties that brought them into office.

He said the party’s decision reflects what they have long believed about loyalty to political parties and respect for democratic rules.

Mohammed also recalled that the Kwankwasiyya movement had suffered in the past when some of its key members, including a former deputy leader and a sitting governor, left the group for other political parties.

The NDC says the new policy is meant to promote discipline, loyalty, and stability within the party ahead of future elections.
