Former Speakers and Deputy Speakers of state Houses of Assembly have endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term and promised to begin a nationwide campaign for his re-election in 2027.
The decision was announced on Thursday at the National Summit of the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of State Houses of Assembly of Nigeria (FOPSHAN), held in Abuja.
The former lawmakers said they would take the administration’s “Renewed Hope” message to people across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
They said their experience in government would help them explain the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration to Nigerians at the grassroots.
The summit focused on the government’s economic reforms, including the removal of petrol subsidy, which the former lawmakers described as a difficult but necessary decision.
Former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, who spoke at the event, said the reforms needed time to produce their full benefits.
He urged Nigerians to support Tinubu for another term, saying continuity would allow the administration to complete the reforms it had started.
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu also attended the summit.
She urged former lawmakers to remain active in public service even after leaving political office.
She said Nigeria still needed their experience, knowledge and connections to strengthen democracy and support development.
The forum said it would use its members and networks across the country to mobilise support for the administration ahead of the 2027 election.
