The Presidency has said a United States court will decide whether records relating to President Bola Tinubu will be released in an ongoing Freedom of Information Act case.
The government made the clarification while responding to comments linked to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The Presidency said the case is before the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and that Atiku has no power to decide whether the records will be released.
It also stressed that the case is a civil dispute over access to records and is not a criminal case against Tinubu.
According to the Presidency, the release or withholding of documents under the US Freedom of Information Act does not mean that a person has committed a crime.
The government said the court has not found Tinubu guilty of any criminal wrongdoing.
The statement comes amid renewed political arguments between supporters of Tinubu and Atiku ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The Presidency maintained that any decision on the records would be made by the US court based on the law and the issues before it.
