Cross River State Deputy Governor, Dr Peter Odey, has survived an accident involving his convoy in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of the state.
The accident happened at about 2pm on Sunday while Odey and members of his team were returning to Calabar from Obanliku Local Government Area.
They had attended a meeting with stakeholders on the proposed concession of the Obudu Ranch Resort.
The condition of the deputy governor could not be independently confirmed as of press time.
However, some members of his convoy were reportedly injured.
A Government House press bus carrying some government officials and staff from the Office of the Deputy Governor reportedly left its lane near an Army checkpoint in Ugep and crashed into three sandbag barriers.
One person, whose name was not immediately known, reportedly suffered a leg injury. Another person was seen bleeding from the nose.
The extent of their injuries was not immediately known as they were awaiting medical assessment.
Sources also said several vehicles were damaged in the accident, but the extent of the damage could not be independently confirmed.
The incident is reportedly the third accident involving the deputy governor’s convoy in the past two months.
The repeated accidents have raised concerns about the condition of vehicles being used for official movements.
Further checks showed that the number of vehicles attached to the Office of the Deputy Governor had reduced.
Vehicles from the governor’s convoy were reportedly being used when needed.
Officials in the Office of the Deputy Governor did not comment when contacted about the accident.
More information about the accident and the condition of those involved was still being awaited as authorities continued to assess the incident.
