The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) English Language paper across schools in the territory, following a monitoring exercise aimed at ensuring compliance with examination standards.
The monitoring exercise, carried out by the Education Resource Centre (ERC) under the FCT Education Secretariat, covered selected public and private schools, including centres operating both Computer-Based Examination (CBE) and Paper-and-Pencil Testing (PPT) systems.

Leading the exercise were the Director of the Education Resource Centre, Dr. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim, and the Director of the Department of Quality Assurance, Hajiya Titilayo Hajara Alayande.Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Abdulrahim said the monitoring formed part of the Education Secretariat’s statutory responsibility to safeguard the credibility of public examinations and ensure that candidates sit for examinations in conducive environments.
She noted that the schools visited demonstrated a high level of compliance with examination guidelines, with candidates showing seriousness while examination officials discharged their duties professionally.
“The examination halls were orderly, invigilators were diligent, and candidates conducted themselves in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the examination,” she said.
According to her, the FCT Administration remains committed to promoting quality education and maintaining the integrity of public examinations.
Dr. Abdulrahim attributed the improved learning and examination environment in schools across the territory to ongoing investments in the education sector by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike.
She said the renovation, rehabilitation and upgrading of educational facilities have contributed significantly to better teaching and learning conditions, while also creating a more comfortable environment for students during examinations and other academic activities.
Also speaking, Hajiya Alayande described quality assurance as a critical component in sustaining public confidence in the education system and ensuring that examination standards are consistently upheld.
She commended school administrators, principals, teachers, supervisors and invigilators for adhering to examination guidelines and maintaining discipline throughout the process.
According to her, the orderly conduct of the examination and the absence of major irregularities in the schools visited reflect the commitment of stakeholders to promoting examination ethics and best practices.
The officials encouraged candidates to remain focused on their studies and avoid all forms of examination malpractice.
Principals of the schools visited expressed appreciation to the Education Resource Centre for its continuous monitoring and quality assurance initiatives, noting that such efforts have helped to improve standards across schools in the FCT.
They reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining academic excellence and ensuring full compliance with examination regulations.
Students who interacted with the monitoring team also expressed confidence in their performance, attributing their preparedness to the dedication of their teachers, intensive revision exercises and the improved learning environment in their schools.
Among the schools visited were Government Secondary School, Garki, and Olumawu School, Wuse II.
Officials observed that examination materials arrived on time and that candidates commenced the examination as scheduled.
The FCTA said the monitoring exercise forms part of broader efforts to strengthen quality assurance mechanisms, safeguard examination integrity and prepare students for academic success and future leadership responsibilities.
According to the administration, the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to human capital development through quality education and reflects ongoing efforts to improve learning outcomes and transparency in the administration of public examinations across the FCT.
