Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has explained why northern political leaders decided to support Peter Obi for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Arise News on Monday night, Kwankwaso said northern leaders held consultations to find a capable candidate, and Obi emerged as the preferred choice.

“I met with our leadership in the North to look for someone capable, and we realised Peter Obi was leading. That is why we agreed to work together,” he said.

Kwankwaso said his Kwankwasiyya Movement and Obi’s Obidient supporters had already started working together before making it public.

He said both groups created a joint alliance called “OK.”

According to him, the name came from supporters of both groups, with some saying “OK” and others saying “KO,” before they agreed to unite.

He also revealed that the coalition talks first started in the African Democratic Congress before moving to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to build a stronger opposition platform ahead of 2027.

Kwankwaso dismissed fears of conflict between supporters of both camps, saying both groups have remained disciplined and united, including supporters living abroad.
