The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened a nationwide strike if the Federal Government fails to address workers’ demands at a meeting scheduled for October 27.
The warning followed a meeting between government officials and labour leaders in Abuja that ended without an agreement.
Labour unions said they would mobilise workers across the country if the government failed to make progress on their demands.
The six key demands are:
1. Lower petrol prices to ease the rising cost of living.
2. Renegotiate the national minimum wage and begin talks on a new wage.
3. Implement agreed tax relief measures for workers.
4. Pay outstanding wage awards and other entitlements.
5. Implement the agreement with health workers’ unions (JOHESU) signed on February 5, 2026.
6. Pay outstanding public sector allowances, including special and hazard allowances.
The unions have called for senior government officials with the authority to approve and implement the demands to attend the next meeting.
