Without Nigeria, Apartheid Would Not Have Ended in South Africa — Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said Nigeria played a major role in the struggle that ended apartheid in South Africa.

Obasanjo said Nigerians should be proud of the country’s contribution to the fight against the apartheid system, which denied the majority of South Africans basic political and civil rights.

According to him, Nigeria provided important support to the struggle at a time when many countries and organisations were working to put pressure on the South African government to end apartheid.

He argued that Nigeria’s contribution was so important that South Africa would not have achieved the end of apartheid at the time it did without Nigeria’s support.

Obasanjo said Nigeria should remember this part of its history and recognise the role the country played in supporting the liberation of South Africa.
