Amnesty International condemned the killing and urged authorities to conduct a swift and transparent investigation and bring those responsible to justice.
The organisation said Masusuka promoted peace, cooperation and understanding among Muslims and spoke against violent extremism. It added that he had faced threats and intimidation during his lifetime.
Similarly, the Northern Youth Council described the killing as a cowardly act and called on the federal and Katsina State governments to investigate the incident fully.
The council also demanded the arrest and prosecution of the gunmen and anyone suspected of planning or funding the attack.
Its president, Isah Abubakar, said northern youths would closely monitor the investigation to ensure justice for the slain cleric.
