Health Workers Prepare for Strike Over 19 Months’ Unpaid Allowances

The Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) has directed its members nationwide to prepare for a possible strike over unpaid allowances and delayed salary adjustments.

The union is demanding payment of 19 months’ allowance arrears and the implementation of an agreed salary review for health workers.

In a statement issued after its meeting in Enugu, the union said the government had failed to fulfil agreements reached in February 2026.

NUAHP also raised concerns about attacks on health workers, poor hospital security and a lack of protective equipment against diseases such as Ebola.

The union urged the Federal Government to meet its demands to prevent another nationwide strike in the health sector.
