2027 Elections: INEC Extends Voter Registration by Two Weeks

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks.

The registration, which began on August 18, 2025, was expected to end on July 10, 2026, but will now close on July 24, 2026.

INEC said the extension followed requests and feedback from its state offices, political parties, civil society groups and other stakeholders.

The commission also announced a new online self-service registration for first-time voters.

From July 8, 2026, eligible Nigerians can begin and complete their voter registration, including biometric capture, using their personal devices through INEC’s CVR portal.

According to INEC, the online system has security measures to verify voters’ identities and protect the accuracy of the national voters register.

The commission urged all eligible Nigerians who have not yet registered to use the extra two weeks and take advantage of the new online registration option.
