Suspected kidnappers have reportedly killed Hon. Rosemary Adukwu, a councillor representing Ogugu Ward III in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, days after abducting her.
Adukwu was kidnapped on September 30 while travelling to Onitsha market.
The attackers reportedly stopped the vehicle near Oji River, between Enugu and Anambra states, and took her away, leaving other passengers unharmed.
Olamaboro Local Government Chairman, Dr Ameh Williams, announced her death on Friday, saying it was confirmed on Thursday while she was still in captivity.
Her family said the kidnappers did not contact them for ransom.
They also alleged that the vehicle’s driver and a person who answered a call to Adukwu’s phone had been arrested to assist the police investigation.
The President-General of Ogugu District Union, Deacon Samuel Ige Agada, condemned the killing, describing it as barbaric.
He said Adukwu was a hardworking businesswoman and community leader who had left behind a grieving family.
The Kogi State Police Command had not officially commented on the incident at the time of reporting.
Adukwu was buried at her family home in Ogugu Centre on Friday.
