The Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group), Umaru Kwairanga, has said the planned Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery shows that Nigeria’s capital market can support major fundraising.
An IPO allows a private company to offer its shares to the public for the first time, giving members of the public an opportunity to become shareholders.
Kwairanga said the Dangote Refinery IPO could help deepen Nigeria’s capital market and create more opportunities for Nigerians to invest in one of the country’s major businesses.
He said the development also showed growing confidence in Nigeria’s financial market and its ability to handle large-scale transactions.
The Dangote Refinery, located in Lagos, is Africa’s largest oil refinery and has become one of Nigeria’s major industrial investments.
The planned share sale is expected to allow more Nigerians and other investors to own part of the company.
Kwairanga’s comments came as investors and financial market operators continue to pay attention to the refinery’s planned public offering.
The IPO could also increase participation in the Nigerian stock market by giving ordinary investors an opportunity to buy shares in the company.
