Elon Musk’s lawyers have threatened legal action against the makers of a new documentary about the billionaire businessman.
The four-hour documentary, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney, examines Musk’s rise from a Silicon Valley entrepreneur to one of the world’s wealthiest people.
Musk’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, accused the filmmakers of producing the documentary with a predetermined conclusion and alleged that they failed to properly fact-check some of its claims with Musk or people close to him.
The documentary premiered at the Venice Film Festival and received strong reviews, including praise for its detailed examination of Musk’s business career and personal life.
The legal warning was also directed at companies involved in the film’s production and distribution, including HBO, Bleecker Street and Universal.
The filmmakers have rejected the criticism, arguing that scrutiny of powerful public figures is protected by freedom of expression.
Musk has also criticised the documentary on X, describing it as a “hit piece.”
