The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man, Moferewa Maiye, for allegedly pretending to be a DSS officer.
Maiye was arrested at his hideout near NITEL Junction on Adetokunbo Ademola Way in Wuse II, Abuja.
He was wearing a DSS tactical uniform and carrying a fake pistol when he was arrested.
A security source said DSS officers received information that Maiye had been using the uniform and fake gun to threaten motorists and other members of the public and collect money from them illegally.
During questioning, Maiye reportedly said the DSS uniform and equipment belonged to his late brother, Monday Maiye, who he claimed was a DSS officer before he died.
The DSS is still investigating how the suspect got the uniform and how long he may have been pretending to be a security officer and extorting people.
The arrest has raised concerns about criminals impersonating security officers to intimidate and deceive members of the public.
