Tinubu Orders EFCC to Unfreeze Osun State Government Accounts

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to lift the court order freezing the bank accounts of the Osun State Government.

In a statement released on Thursday, Tinubu said he supports the EFCC’s anti-corruption work but believes the timing of the action was wrong because the Osun governorship election is only a few days away.

“I feel deeply embarrassed, not because the EFCC carried out its legal duty, but because of the timing of the action,” the President said.

Tinubu said he has always allowed anti-corruption agencies to work independently without political interference.

However, he said the EFCC’s action could create the impression that the Federal Government was trying to influence the election.

“Nothing should be done to give the impression that the EFCC or any other federal agency is being used to interfere with the election,” he said.

The President therefore ordered the EFCC to return to court immediately to withdraw the order freezing the state’s accounts and stop further action against the Osun State Government in the matter.
